Marvel Doctor Strange Movie Will Not Be A Horror Film; Kevin Feige Reveals Details – Benedict Cumberbatch As The Great Sorcerer Supreme?

Marvel Doctor Strange movie is reportedly going on production this fall in preparation for the July 8, 2016 release date with a director and writer on board - Scott Derrickson and Jon Spaihts, according to an article posted by Variety.

"Obviously it's been announced there's a writer on Doctor Strange but in that situation it's maybe my favorite screenwriter in town. I'd read four of his scripts before ever meeting him. I think that the opportunity to work with great talent and people who can supersede my abilities in various areas is extremely exciting to me. Like, Jon Spaihts is a genius," confirmed by director Scott Derrickson.

Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, had a talk with Empire Magazine where he was asked about Doctor Strange becoming more of a horror film rather than a superhero film.

"I would say you can certainly look at the past work of the filmmakers we hire as a bit of an indication for the tone of the movie, but not necessary everything. The Russos, who are well known for their sitcoms, there is nothing sitcom about The Winter Soldier! No, I wouldn't say just because he has only done horror movies means that Doctor Strange is going to be a horror movie. It means he is a talented filmmaker who we think could add something unique and very fresh to the particular franchise. But there could be scary moments. There are scary moments in all our movies! There are some scary people that Strange has to deal with, I will say."

He previously explained to Digital Spy the importance of bringing Stephen Strange on the big screen and how it will bring interesting changes to Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I believe it's very, very important for us to explore every nook and cranny of the comic-book universe," Total Film reported during CineEurope event.

"We've done the street-level heroes, and we've done the billionaire superheroes. We've now done the cosmic side with Thor and Avengers and most obviously with [Guardians of the Galaxy}, but there's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe.

"Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own."

Feige continued saying that the Sorcerer Supreme's film is "very, very important" to Marvel's future.

"[This is] a journey of a man who's gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis, but it also is going to open up a whole other side of storytelling for our movies," he expounded.

More importantly Marvel's big man suggests that the casting for the movie will start "in the next month or two."

In the wake of the recent development of the planned Marvel Doctor Strange project, Deadline.com reports that fan favorites "Hobbit: Battle Of Five Armies" smaug Benedict Cumberbatch and "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy are both being eyed to play the titular role.

It is safe to assume that it will not take any longer for Marvel to officially announce who would take on the sought after role.

Marvel Doctor Strange movie is set for release on July 8, 2016.
