Skye McCole Bartusiak, who played Mel Gibson's youngest daughter in the film "The Patriot" and Michael Douglas' daughter in "Don't Say a Word" died Saturday at the age was 21. Skye McCole Bartusiak's cause of death has not been determined.

While Skye McCole Bartusiak cause of death is unknown, it has been reported that Bartusiak suffered epileptic seizures since she was a baby. Up until a week ago, the epileptic seizures had disappeared.

Bartusiak's boyfriend found the young actress sitting up in her bed in the garage apartment she lived in at her parent' house on Saturday.

Bartusiak's mother told CNN "We think she had a seizure and choked and nobody was there."

Bartusiak's mother, Helen Bartusiak, said the actress' boyfriend found Skye unresponsive on her bed Saturday. Her mother said she started cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her daughter before paramedics arrived. "They were working on her for 45 minutes and could not get a heartbeat," she said. "I've done CPR on that kid more than one time and it just didn't work this time."

Her mother noted that she was preparing to produce and direct her first feature film. "We lost our girl," Helen told CNN. "She was a kind and really beautiful girl."

Helen Bartusiak said her daughter was healthy and did not drink or do drugs.

"The girl has lived such an amazing life," she said.

In "The Patriot," Bartusiak played the daughter of militia leader Benjamin Martin. Heath Ledger, who died after an accidental overdose of painkillers and sedatives in 2008, also starred in Mel Gibson's Revolutionary War epic. Bartusiak made her film debut in the 1999 movie "The Cider House Rules." She starred with Michael Douglas in "Don't Say a Word" in 2001. Bartusiak was last seen on film in "Sick Boy" in 2012.Bartusiak's first role came in the 1999 television miniseries "Storm of the Century."  She had a recurring role on the show "24"from 2002-2003. She also appeared on "Lost," "CSI" and "House."
