Arcade Fire Tour 2014 Ramps Up: North American Dates To Feature Likes Of 'Whip It' Hitmakers Devo And Television, Band Shortlisted For Polaris Prize

The Arcade Fire Tour for 2014 is set to get even bigger and better! The Montreal-based indie rock band just announced a bunch of special guest openers for some of their North American tour dates as they bring their "Reflektor" record to life.

The iconic new wave band Devo, best known for their ridiculously catchy 1980s hit "Whip It", will be opening Arcade Fire's July 30 show at Mountain View in California and Chicago's United Center on August 26. Pioneering art-punks Television will hit the stage for Arcade Fire's August 24 'Reflektor' show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

But despite the announcement of some pretty high-profile guests in Devo and Television, Arcade Fire's surprises haven't ended there.

"Additional openers include indie dance party-starter Dan Deacon, Spoon, Antibalas, the Unicorns (who reunited for the gigs), Tune-Yards, Owen Pallett, Constantines, Fraka and Pulp bassist Steve Mackey, performing DJ sets," said Billboard.

Billboard also reports that Arcade Fire, along with recruiting the likes of Devo and Television to join them on stage, have been paying homage to a number of classic indie rock bands on tour.

"Last month they covered The Smiths' 'London' and Echo & the Bunnymen's 'The Cutter', featuring Echo frontman Ian McCulloch himself," the music website reported.

While Arcade Fire takes "Reflektor" on tour, they've also earned themselves a prestigious shortlisting for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize - a prize they've previously taken out before for earlier record "The Suburbs".

The tour has been a pretty crazy experience by all accounts - the band are known for their quirky sets, and encourage fans on Twitter to dress up or wear formal attire to their gigs.

Arcade Fire begins their North American tour on July 30 in California, and it will draw to a close in their hometown of Montreal on August 30. In between these dates, they'll be hitting up the likes of Seattle, British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, DC, New York, Bangor and Boston.
