Nvidia Tegra K1 Release Date: ‘World’s Fastest Chipset’ May Still Not Win Over Snapdragon; The Battle Of Processors A Marketing Game?

NVIDIA Tegra K1 release date: It’s considered the “world’s fastest chipset” at least from benchmark tests, outperforming the latest slate of processors available in the market today. The Apple A7 and the Snapdragon 805 processor may not fair to the speed power of the NVIDIA Tegra K1, but as one of our readers note, the battle of processors maybe a marketing game.

“As much as I love Nvidia, Snapdragon processor will always reign as long as Samsung uses it. These days people don't care much about specs,” writes commenter Lucifer Crow. “Samsung could probably sell you the cheapest processor out there and as long as it has the name on the phone, people will buy it.”

“Sigh, it would be awesome if Nvidia would market their products a little more. Their crowd or "fan base" is mostly PC gamers. Its time to break out of that shell. I myself am a Nvidia fan. I always used their products. I'd love to see them promote their products better.”

It would seem then from the standpoint of this NVIDIA fan, marketing and branding plays a role on which is the better processor.

One headway though that NVIDIA may have done in terms of pushing its devices is to work with an upcoming global tech giant. Xiaomi, also considered the “Apple of China” has launched what is considered the first Tegra K1-powered device.

In a blog post, Nvidia stated that “They (Xiaomi) sell phones fast. They develop blazing fast devices. Its Tegra 4-powered Mi3 was the world’s fastest phone at launch. They’re growing fast, too: Xiaomi is now one of the world’s largest smartphone vendors. And now, they’re the first to build a tablet with our out-of-this-world fast Tegra K1 mobile processor.”

Many heads turned during the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas after the Nvidia Tegra K1 showcased its features during benchmark tests. The tests revealed that the “world’s fastest chipset” for mobile devices has surpassed some off the flagship chipsets of Qualcomm (Snapdragon 800), Apple (A7), and Intel (Haswell).

Moreover, benchmark tests done by blog Evolife also showed how the Nvidia Tegra K1 overpowered the Snapdragon, beating its performance by miles.

The Tegra K1 has already become a rising star as Nvidia’s flagship processor. Recently, WCCF reported that the 64-bit processor Nvidia Tegra K1 will be supporting DX12 API. WCCF, however, added that Nvidia’s decision is a critical step. It is also rumored that tablets, particularly under the Microsoft Surface line, will have the Nvidia Tegra K1 under the hood. However, nothing is still confirmed by the new processor.

Amidst the line-up of praises hailed at the Nvidia Tegra K1, one way to tell if the “world’s fastest chipset” for mobile devices can defeat the Snapdragon is through its upcoming performance under the hood of the Xiaomi MiPad. But a key roadblock, like our reader noted, that they need to overcome is for the introspective consumers to think that they’re actually the better procesor.
