Downton Abbey Season 5 Spoilers: More Character Deaths, Anna's Rape, The New Lady Mary, And US Premiere Date

"Downton Abbey" season 5 will be coming the US this January, but before that, spoilers have surfaced about some of our favorite characters.

First, it appears that despite losing several key characters already, "Downton Abbey" season 5 might continue the trend.

"No one's safe," said executive producer Gareth Neame to TVLine. “We’ve lost so many key characters already. Although the show’s only been on for four years, we’ve actually covered 10 to 12 years, so it’s reasonable that within any family, there’d be deaths in that timeframe.”

Meanwhile, spoilers confirm that "Downton Abbey" season 5 will jump ahead in time six months since the end of season 4.

According to E! Online, "Downton Abbey" season 5 will also introduce new characters, including Lady Anstruther, a "troublemaker" portrayed by Anna Chancellor who is "looking for something."

Spoilers also confirm that Mary is ready to step into the next phase of her life after mourning the loss of Matthew last season.

"I think this year, she's quite impulsive," said actress Michelle Dockery. "She's embracing her new life, really. She's got a bit of her bite back."

Anna's rape will also continue to be an issue on "Downton Abbey" in season 5.

"I think that starting season five, you see her obviously changed by what happened to her. There's a lot of pressure for her and Bates. They're both keeping secrets from each other," said actress Joanne Froggatt.

"Downton Abbey" season 5 will premiere in the US on PBS on Sunday, January 4.
