Doctor Who Season 8 Movie Premiere Confirmed By Steven Moffat After 50th Anniversary Special Success

Following the success of the "Doctor Who" 50th Anniversary Special in cinemas, the season 8 premiere will get the same treatment, according to Steven Moffat.

“Last November the Doctor didn’t just conquer the world on television, he did it in the cinemas too," said Moffat according to DoctorWhoTV. "And like the show-off he is, he can’t resist another go–one taste of the silver screen is never enough. On August 23rd the new Doctor will begin his new adventures on BBC One and in cinemas all over the world. Movieland beware–Capaldi is coming to get you!”

The feature-length premiere of "Doctor Who" season 8 is directed by Ben Wheatley and written by executive producer Moffat himself. It will feature Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor and Jenna Coleman as returning companion Clara, plus Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart) and Strax (Dan Starkey).

As of now, specific cinemas have not yet been listed for the August 23 event, so be sure to check back for updates.

"I missed out the chance to watch 'Day of the Doctor' on the big screen, so this is kind of my second opportunity," commented NumberNine on DoctorWhoTV.

"I think it's worth pointing out, to those who feel it unnecessary, that this isn't just a new incarnation, but the first incarnation of a new regeneration cycle," wrote MrRazza. "It's a celebration of where 'Doctor Who' has got to since the revival, climbing to global attention and acclaim more than at any other time in its history."

"It provides a unique opportunity to many fans, it broadens its scope and increases the attention it garners. It's not a feature film, it's not being Hollywood-ised, it's just the TV show being shown on a bigger screen for a bigger crowd to enjoy. If, like myself, you're just not very keen on the cinema, then just watch it at home. It will still be on TV you know."
