Lucy Lawless 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' Role Announced at Comic-Con; Xena Lends Her Talents to Marvel's Spy Team on ABC

Lucy Lawless will play Isabel Hartley on season 2 of the Marvel series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Lucy Lawless has many talents, as any fan of Xena, the Warrior Princess, will tell you. She can throw a chakram, deliver a baby while the hordes are attacking and sing better than the Sirens.She also does a mean Stevie Nicks. Lawless will now get to apply her considerable skills of espionage.

Producers of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." confirmed that Lucy Lawless will play a longtime S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran, Isabel Hartley.

During a Marvel television panel at Comic-Con on Friday, executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen said "She's tough. She may have a knife always by her side."

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" follows a team of highly skilled agents who investigate strange occurrences around the world. Lucy Lawless, who's last starring role came on Showtime's "Spartacus," is no stranger to investigating strange occurrences. After Xena lost her head and left Gabrielle to fend for herself in the mythical ancient Greece, Lawless spent some time heating up "The X-Files."

On Friday at San Diego's Comic-Con, a Marvel TV panel announced that directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," will direct Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D'S second and third episodes which will debut in 2015 on ABC. Joe Johnson, who directed "Captain America: The First Avenger" will be behind the camera for the fourth episode. Marvel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito nabbed the director role for the first episode.

The "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" panel also announced that Nick Blood will play a mercenary named Lance Hunter who aids the S.H.I.E.L.D team. They also announced that Reed Diamond will play the Hydra villain Daniel Whitehall, aka Kraken, on season 2.

TV Guide broke the news that Lucy Lawless, who was out of this world on "Battlestar Galactica" and down to earth on the comedy "Parks and Recreation" will appear in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." for Season 2.

"Agents of SH.I.E.L.D," is a TV spin-off that sprung out of Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson character from the Marvel movies "The Avengers" and "Iron Man." ABC renewed the series for a second season in May. The network also announced that they will add "Marvel's Agent Carter," which stars "Captain America's" Hayley Atwell, to its roster.

The second season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D"  will air on ABC starting on Sept. 23.
