Sabina Altynbekova Wants To “Concentrate On Volleyball”, Not Internet Fame: Told Too Beautiful To Play Sport

Sabina Altynbekova just made Kazakhstan more famous than Borat ever did! At least in Asia. She has gone viral during the 2014 Asian Junior Women’s Volleyball Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan because of her beauty. But Sabina Altynbekova insists that she isn’t interested in modelling and wishes to “concentrate on volleyball”, not using her beauty to ride the Internet wave.

People have been saying that she is too beautiful to play volleyball. The team’s coach Nurlan Sadikov, according to Daily Mail translation, said that "It is impossible to work like this. The crowd behaves like there is only one player at the championship.”

That’s not exactly a nice thing to say to a 17-year-old volleyball player, especially when his Internet hysteria was out of her hands.

To mediate the situation, Sabina Altynbekova asked her fans to stop creating Facebook fan websites.

The Kazakh volleyball player’s Instagram account has over 250k followers. Check out her picture!

Modeling is absolutely out of the picture for Sabina Altynbekova. Her mother Nuripa Amrievna revealed that her daughter has been asked to model, but stated that “she will not go there -- we as parents are against (it)," according to Daily Mail.

"I wanted her to be admitted to the law (school), but she chose sports," she said, according to a Google translation.

It’s interesting how a female player is told that she is too beautiful to play sports when many pretty boys on soccer fields, stadiums and courts never told that they are too handsome for sports. Internet has yet again revealed sexism in sports.

Kazakhstan national women’s volleyball team finished in 7th place. Sabina Altynbekova rarely played in the matches.
