Oscar Pistorius Murder Case Update: Trial On Killing Of Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp Nears End; Summary Of Arguments Up In Court

Oscar Pistorius murder case trial for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is nearing the inevitable conclusion as both the prosecution and defense are due to present their closing arguments to the Pretoria high court.

According to the Eyewitness News, the defense team is set to file the necessary papers on Monday in time for its oral presentation on Thursday or Friday next week. The prosecution, meanwhile, will immediately follow in presenting its case based on the evidence they presented in the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

After hearing their arguments, Judge Thokozile Masipa will then rule in favor of or against the paralympian's acquittal. If found guilty, he could be sent to prison for life, or at least 25 years on good behavior.

The opposing parties presented 36 people testified in over a month, the Australian News said.

A report by New York Times revealed that the defense argued during the Oscar Pistorius' OJ Simpson like trial that his "condition" made him feel vulnerable, which will manifest itself for overreacting, just like what happened on February 14, 2013 when he shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp inside the toilet.

The former Olympian said that he mistook the 29-year-old model for a burglar.

"This is the night I lost the person I most cared about. I don't know how people don't understand that," he said during one cross-examination in April.

The defense's case suffered a major blow after the psych evaluation did not prove that he suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

"Mr. Pistorius did not suffer from a mental illness or defect that would have rendered him criminally not responsible for the offence charged," state prosecutor Gerrie Nel read the report, according to BBC.

Oscar Pistorius was ordered evaluated at the Weskoppies Mental Health hospital to ascertain whether or not a momentary breakdown caused him to fire his gun on his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013.
