iPAd Air vs. iPad 4: A Quick Comparison Of Apple Tablets On Design, Display, Performance; To Upgrade Or Not To Upgrade?

iPAd Air vs. iPad 4: After its release last 2012, the iPad 4 is still fairly visible as the iPad Air's predecessor. So if you're holding your 2012 Apple tablet, you're probably wondering if you need an upgrade.

The iPad 4's price starts at $400, while the iPad Air is at $500-this is a $100 difference between the two. So the question is: Is the upgrade worth the extra charge? Here is a quick comparison to let you decide.

DESIGN

Both Apple tablets are available in Space Gray or Silver. And that is the only similarity they will have. The Air has a thinner (7.5mm vs 9.4mm), smaller (240x169mm vs 241x185mm), and lighter (469g vs 662g) body. It is almost 30% lighter than its predecessor. The latest tablet wins in portability while the iPad 4 now appears too bulky for its size.

DISPLAY

Both iPads feature a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and a pixel display of 264 ppi-in other words, we are at a draw.

The two Apple tablets sport multiple viewing angles, perfect for groups or pairs who enjoy watching movies together. With a gorgeous retina display for a more vibrant and crisper media playing, the two iPads give flawless viewing experiences.

PERFORMANCE

When it comes to judging the right processor, it simply boils down to the type of user. If you are a gamer, downloader, and extreme media user, then the iPad Air's Apple A7 64-bit processor that doubles the tablets CPU performance is perfect for you.

However, if you're after basic or simple daily functions, then the iPad 4's A6X Dual-Core processor (the same one found in the iPhone 5) will do just fine.

The memory, however, is a big game changer. The iPad 4 can only reach up to 16 GB, while the Air is available up to 128 GB of internal storage.

With all of its advancements, the iPad Air is certainly the winner over the iPad 4. But still, is it enough to be a worthy upgrade? Well, unless you're not in a hurry, try waiting for the iPad Air 2 and see if it has a better offer.
