[VIDEOS] Joan Rivers Interview With Insensitive Palestine Comments: The ‘Fashion Police’ Host Known For Rude and Mean Rants Defends Palestinians ‘Deserve To Be Dead’ Statement

Comedienne Joan Rivers is in hot water after her controversial comments about the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict to a TMZ reporter outside LAX airport.

Rivers, known for her controversial stance on everything from gowns to politics, claimed to have no sympathy for the Palestinian casualties in Israel’s attacks on Gaza, but later backtracked to say her comments were “totally taken out of context,” according to the Toronto Sun.

When the TMZ reporter asked Rivers for her thoughts on the nearly 2000 Palestinians killed since the Israeli Defense Forces launched their military operation in Gaza, the ‘funny’ lady shot back with some shocking remarks.

In the video clip, posted on TMZ, he 81-year-old ‘Fashion Police’ personality can be heard saying, “They started it. We now don't count who's dead. You're dead, you deserve to be dead... Don't you dare make me feel sad about that... You don't get out, then you know you're an idiot. Then at least the ones that were killed were the ones with very low IQs."

The cringe-worthy clip has gone viral in recent days, but this is not the first time we’ve unwittingly heard Joan Rivers opinion of the Israeli-Palestinian war. Just last week, she “unleashed an impassioned defense of Israel” outside LAX, according to TMZ.

Regarding her most recent comments, slightly regretful Joan Rivers said in a statement, "I am both saddened and disappointed that my statement about the tragedy of civilian casualties was totally taken out of context. What I said and stand behind is, war is hell and unfortunately civilians are victims of political conflicts... The media, as usual, has decided to only quote the most out of context and inflammatory non sequitur rather than giving an accurate account of what my intentions were behind the statement.”

The “Fashion Police” host continued, "I am praying for peace. It is stupid and wrong and I am tired of bearing the brunt of attacks by people who want to sell newspapers or gain ratings by creating a scandal about me that is non-existent."

According to CNN, “The Palestinian Ministry of Health said as of Thursday that 1,888 people, including 446 children, have died and 9,804 injured in Gaza in the past month. The United Nations has estimated that at least 70% of the dead were civilians. The Israel Defense Forces believes it killed about 900 militants -- roughly half of the dead. Israeli officials have said 64 Israeli soldiers and three civilians in Israel died.”
