Ansel Elgort Shirtless In Ice Bucket Challenge Video [WATCH]; Doctors Warn Netizens That Challenge Can Cause Death Despite Its Good Cause For ALS Research

Ansel Elgort proves that he is not afraid to try new things as he gives in to the famous ice bucket challenge. The whole thing was filmed and posted on Instagram. The Ansel Elgort shirtless video aspires to raise funds for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research spearheaded by Alsa.org

Ansel Elgort, shirtless, captioned the post: "Yes... I'm about to do it. Ice bucket challenge. #ALS #LouGehrigsdisease I'm giving 500$ myself how much r u gonna give???? Alsa.org/donate."

In the video, Elgort emptied a bagful of ice in the bucket and then poured the water on his head. The sensation made him shout, "Oh my God!"

Though not confirmed whether Elgort's act indeed helped the cause, the ALS association reportedly witnessed a ten times increase in donations two days after Elgort's video surfaced.

Despite its good intentions, physicians have warned people to be cautious in doing the challenge especially if one's heart isn't in good condition. Last July 7, a 40-year-old man named Willis Tepania died from cardiac arrest after doing the challenge.

The New York-born actor grew closer to the cause when he portrayed the role of cancer-stricken Augustus Waters in "The Fault in Our Stars." In the film adaptation of John Green's bestselling novel, Waters was battling with osteosarcoma and had to wear a prosthetic leg battle.

In one of his interviews with Teen Vogue, Elgort compared himself to Waters: "Augustus is quirky, weird, and nerdy. That's kind of how I am in real life. Really!"

"I paint miniatures and play video games, too. I have a lot in common with the guy!" he added.

His performance paid off for he recently went home with a surfboard from the Teen Choice Awards 2014. Elgort nabbed the Choice Drama Movie Actor award and in return, he delivered a speech dedicated to young people fighting with cancer.

Elgort will be next seen on "Insurgent' on March 2015 wherein he will reprise his role as Caleb, the older brother of Tris (Shailene Woodley).
