‘Game Of Thrones’ Home Titanic Studios Which Queen Elizabeth II Visited Will Have Major Expansion; Will It Become Europe’s Version Of Hollywood?

Belfast appears to be very determined in becoming the European version of Hollywood as it was recently confirmed that Titanic Studios would undergo a staggering extension worth £14 million.

The city, where the hit "Game of Thrones" series is being filmed, already received an approval for the utilization of 100,000 square foot of facilities. The application was reportedly submitted last December and since then, no objections have been raised.

The film studios will be comprised of office spaces and production workshops. The newest studios will likewise make use of roof-mounted solar panel systems in an attempt to assist Northern Ireland in its goal to have a low-carbon economy.

"This planning application for two film studios and supporting facilities would, if constructed, put Belfast on the map as one of Europe's largest film production locations," said environment minister Mark Durkan.

"The use of sustainable technology with the roof-mounted solar panel system is also to be welcomed. These photovoltaic roof-mounted panels convert solar radiation into electricity which reduces costs - a win-win for business and the environment," added Durkan.

Chief executive of Northern Ireland Screen Richard Williams likewise cannot hide his pride for the project: "As we move into a new phase of international activity, on the back of the new tax breaks for high-end television drama and animation, Northern Ireland Screen needs to be able to assure the global industry of our continued capability to house large-scale international productions."

From 2010 to 2013, the Titanic Studios served as the home for "Game of Thrones" seasones one to four. The show's fifth season is likewise being filmed there.

Last June, Queen Elizabeth II visited the studio and had an encounter with the show's Iron Throne.
