Savannah Guthrie’s Unique Baby Name: Today Show Anchor Welcomes Baby Girl Vale, First Time Mom At Age 42

The Today Show has a new edition! With an Old World named. Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, 42, and her husband Michael Feldman welcomed their first child on Wednesday, a baby girl named Vale.

I think we found heaven in this little hospital room in New York City," Guthrie told Today. After struggling with infertility, the NBC host can finally celebrate a new milestone in her life: motherhood.

Vale Guthrie Feldman made her introduction to the world weighing 8.5 lb and measuring 19.5 inches. Today reported, 'At the moment, she has blue eyes, a little bit of blondish hair and the chubbiest cheeks you've ever seen.'

Guthrie, who left for maternity leave on Monday, tweeted the first photo of her daughter, writing, "My 3am wake up call sounds a lot different now. Sweeter..."

The proud parents also unveiled their unique choice in baby name. According to Nameberry.com, "a vale is a kind of valley, often used in poetry." Of English origin, Vale has never ranked among the top 1000 names in the United States.

If the name sounds familiar, it may be because it's been featured in the book series "A Song of Fire and Ice," as well as the popular television adaptation, HBO's "Game of Thrones." Vale of Arryn, anyone?

Guthrie's co-host Matt Lauer revealed on Today that Vale indeed had a similar disposition to her new moniker, "calm" and "serene," at least until 10 am.

While Guthrie's high-profile job has forced her to be public about her pregnancy, she has also opened up concerning her struggles with infertility.

I can remember many difficult times in my personal life when even just turning on the TV could be painful," Guthrie wrote on her Today blog. "[Everyone] seemed to have it together and I felt totally alienated by the happy, well-adjusted people on TV who didn't seem to struggle.

Guthrie praised her colleague Bobbie Thomas who recently did a segment on her own effort to get pregnant.

"So, in the spirit of Bobbie's candor and courage," wrote Guthrie, "I just want to send love and prayers to all those who are going through difficulties of their own."
