Oscar Pistorius Murder Case Trial For Killing Of Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp Used As Classroom Material; ‘Blade Runner’ Faces Long Years In Jail?

Oscar Pistorius murder case trial for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is being shown from the living rooms and into classrooms in South Africa, as the "Blade Runner" faces long-term imprisonment.

According to the report by The Journal, some teachers in South Africa have taken to asking their students questions about the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial for his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's killing.

"While adults have been quick to judge the innocence or guilt of the star sprinter, students are taught to take a more measured approach and see Pistorius as innocent until proven guilty," the website said.

One student of Lotus Garden Secondary School in Pretoria who spoke to the website said that they were instructed to wait for the court to rule on the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial before making their own judgment.

Another student, 14-year-old Donnavan Fourie, of Laerskool Boerefort said that everybody has the right to fight for their innocence as well as a fair trial, Oscar Pistorius included.

Kelly Phelps, a senior lecturer of the University of Cape Town, commented: "I'm not certain that in his decision to broadcast the trial (the judge) had education in the forefront of his mind, but it has had that unintended side effect and it has been a powerful tool."

With the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial's end looming on September 11, Judge Thokozile Masipa will finally give the ruling on whether or not the paralympian should be held accountable for the death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, when he shot her to death behind the bathroom door.

While he killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is not in question, all the court has to decide now is the severity of the crime.

In a report by Reuters as published in Voice of America, the judge could possibly rule premeditated murder in the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial, in which case the "Blade Runner" can face at least 25 years in prison, "or a lesser count of murder, to culpable homicide-with a maximum 15-year sentence."
