Ariana Grande wanted to break free from "Sam & Cat" long before her co-star Jennette McCurdy, iCarly star, leaked "naked" selfies on Instagram.

Ariana Grande started playing the character Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon hit "Victorious" before the character was resurrected to star with Jennette McCurdy's Sam Pucket character from iCarly. The pop singer has a new album called "My Everything" about to drop and Grande is opening up about playing the character Cat Valentine on "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat. Jennette McCurdy's naked selfies just might have been the "Best Mistake" that could have happened to Ariana Grande.

In an interview with People Magazine, Grande said "It was a blessing and one of my childhood dreams come true. For a long time I was attached to a character that was nothing like myself. It was a little frustrating."

The story that was going around the web speculated that Jennette McCurdy was tired of getting paid less than co-star Ariana Grande and leaked semi-naked lingerie selfies on Instagram. Ariana Grande was on the verge of  pop stardom if only she could get out of her multi-year, 40-episodes-per-season basic cable contract.

In a long Facebook message, Ariana told her fans that she was sad that Sam & Cat ended, but in a new interview with People she admitted "For a long time I was attached to a character that was nothing like myself. It was a little frustrating."

Ariana Grande says she is much more weird than her "Sam & Cat" role. The chart-topping 21-year-old singer told Billboard magazine that she was also a little dark.

"I think people see me as a little cutesy thing. But I'm literally the most sardonic person you've ever met," she said in the Billboard cover interview.

Grande said she was "a very weird little girl" who was "dark and deranged" while growing up in Boca Raton Fla.

"I always wanted to have skeleton face paint on or be wearing a Freddy Krueger mask, and I would carry a hockey stick around. I was like a mini-Helena Bonham Carter," Grande told Billboard. "For my fifth birthday party we had a Jaws theme and all my friends left crying. I mean, I still am that way. But when I was little it was more concerning. There was a stage, when I was 3 or 4, where my mom thought I might grow up to be a serial killer."
