Melissa Steel - the British singer from Bradford who rose to fame when she featured in Kove's hit "Way We Are" earlier this year - just released a new music video for "Kisses For Breakfast." Melissa Steel says she's "genuinely proud" of her One Direction friend Zayn Malik for his success, but how does she know Perrie Edwards' fiance?

"Me and [Zayn Malik] have always been close," Melissa Steel told Entertainmentwise about the One Direction singer. "Since all this has happened we've both been super busy so we haven't really had a chance to chat, it's just happened so fast," she said of their rising success.

Entertainmentwise reports that Melissa Steel knows Little Mix's Perrie Edwards' fiance from school in Bradford, where they both grew up!

"A lot of people didn't know that he sung but me and him used to speak about it a lot!"

"We went to a normal school but we just so happened to both become musicians. I've never ever gone to him for favours, I've always had my own thing going on. Even when I'm hanging out with him, I'll just go to the studio and do that on my own."

Entertainmentwise asked Melissa if it has been difficult to watch her childhood friend reach global fame over the past few years.

"I've had those points where I thought is this ever going to happen?" she admitted. "But I was so genuinely proud of him and I knew my time would come, and now I feel so ready for this."

Will Melissa Steele follow Zayn Malik to the US after her success with "Kisses For Breakfast"?

"I don't just wanna go to the US and forget about the UK, so I want to focus on here first off. But when I go out there I'll probably find producers out there and the style over there suits my sound. But I want to smash it here," she said.
