As opposed to several celebrity ice bucket challenges, the Cody Simpson ALS challenge has an unusual twist for it took place without the 17-year-old's knowledge. On August 18, the "La Da Dee" singer shared a video of him waking up early in the morning with ice water thrown on him.

In the Instagram-hosted video, two of Simpson's friends were holding ice buckets. One assures viewers that the crooner accepted the challenge with the disclaimer, "He just doesn't know he's doing it right now."

The boys then went into Simpson's room who was then sleeping shirtless. Upon throwing water on him, he wakes up right away and yells.

His former girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, also made sure to join the good cause. The 19-year-old completed the challenge while clad in a pair of pink bikini. She nominated singers Joe Jonas and Michael Buble as well as model Sara Sampaio.

She also did the challenge in honor of her mother's best friend who appeared to have battled with ALS. Hadid likewise nominated Simpson but later deleted it realizing that he's busy.

"Was going to nominate CS but he's on tour so that's not fair... But @CODYSIMPSON I NOMINATE YOU WHEN YOURE NOT ON THE ROAD ANYMORE," she wrote on Twitter.

Cody Simpson and Gigi Hadid parted ways last month but recent interviews suggest a possible reconciliation in the future.

"I have a best friend in Gigi. We've been together and we've been broken up for certain reasons and we've been back together and we've broken up again because we're always in different places working," Simpson told The Bump
