Shakira Hit Song Loca: Illegally Copied From A Dominican Songwriter? Find Out The Details Here!

According to the article of BBC, a New York federal judge on Tuesday concluded that Sony Music was legally responsible for copyright infringement of Shakira hit song Loca from her album Sale el Sol in 2011.

The song Loca has been tracked to a songwriter in a Dominican Republic whose name is Ramon "Arias" Vasquez who wrote the song Loca con su Tiguera in the mid-1990s.

Arias told the U.S District Judge in the trial that 8 years ago he met a person named Eduardo Edwin Bello Pou by the screen name El Cata. Arias narrated that he introduced the song Loca con su Tiguera to Bello and even asked Arias to record the song.

However, according to the Billboard article, Bello denied the said allegation and confirmed that he really owned the song which was inspired from his ex-wife.

Shakira hit song Loca, which was released in English and Spanish version will face a copyright violation, however the Spanish version of the song only.

"There is no dispute that Shakira's version of the song was based on Bello's version," writes the judge.

"Accordingly, I find that, since Bello had copied Arias, whoever wrote Shakira's version of the song also indirectly copied Arias," he concluded.

According to BBC, Shakira hit song Loca topped Billboard Magazine's Latin charts and sell of about 5 million copies.

Furthermore, according to the article of Billboard, the case now moves to a trial phase to further determine the person responsible and the damages to be paid.
