Latest Miley Cyrus Controversy: 'Wrecking Ball' Singer Banned From Dominican Republic, Tickets Already Sold

Miley Cyrus is no stranger to controversy, but it looks like her scandalous behavior may be starting to have a negative impact on her career. The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer has now been banned from performing an already scheduled concert in the Dominican Republic, despite the fact that tickets are already on sale. Officials cited morality reasons as the cause of the ban.

In a newly released statement, the Dominican commission that oversees public performances said the Cyrus moratorium was put in place because the singer “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law.” The commission has a history of banning performers from the stage and airwaves that it deems vulgar or inappropriate.

This is not the first time Cyrus’ onstage antics have faced strong opposition. Earlier this year, there was a large outcry from angry parents in the US and Canada, who wanted her current ‘Bangerz’ tour cancelled altogether, due to its adult nature. The show features the singer in extremely revealing outfits, twerking onstage and simulating sex acts with backup dancers - all of which stands in stark contrast with the squeaky clean image Cyrus used to maintain as the star of Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana. This is, however, the first time that outrage over Cyrus’ behavior has actually prevented her from performing. It is unclear, as of yet, whether this will become a new trend, and how this could affect her career in the long run.

The Dominican concert was set to take place on September 13, and tickets, which range from $27 to $370, have been on sale since July. No word yet on whether fans will have their money refunded.
