FIBA: Senegal came to learn

Senegal did not wait for a day before having their second victory at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. In fact they shocked Croatia with a sweat-dropping score of 77-75. Senegal counted 16 years between their second and third wins at flagship event but this is something overwhelming to the Africans.

"This is history. We joked around coming here saying we were trying to make history, but we really had in mind that we wanted to make history," said Senegal. The big man Hamady Ndiaye owned five points, five rebounds and three blocks in Senegal's second win.

The victory arrives after a day when Senegal knocked off team Puerto Rico in Group B. It was wrapping up their first Worlds win since defeating Korea at the 1998 FIBA World Championship and the only previous win for Senegal at Worlds was against China back in 1978.

"We rode the wave from yesterday and got another great win," said Senegal captain Maleye Ndoye. He was a member of the Senegal team that went humiliating 0-5 standing at hte 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan.

"It would be great to keep playing and continue to ride the wave. But we'll use the day to get some rest. And we will be focused the same for the next game against Argentina."

France captain Boris Diaw went to Twitter, a social networking site, to send congratulations the Senegalese.

Senegal is now tied with Croatia having 2-1 in the group and is getting ready to face Argentina and Philippines next.

Coach Cheikh Sarr declared the team's main goal is to take part in the knockout stage of Spain 2014. It is something that looks blurry for them until after the first half of the first game against Greece happened.

"Our tournament started in the second half against Greece. The first half was really crazy. We didn't know the competition would be like that," he said.

He added: "Other teams come here to win the tournament. We are here to learn."

Looking at the last two matches, it seems that Senegal have cultured how to win games.
