FIBA: Lithuania disappointed but still hopeful

Lithuania's Renaldas Seibutis and Jonas Kazlauskas bowed down as they went into the press conference after the loss against Australia with a score of 82-75. The spectators saw Lithuania played with so much pressure in the first half of the match that handed over a 19-point deficit. They seemingly shoo away the prospect of having the first spot in Group D.

"We couldn't stop their game, stop their fast-break," said Seibutis. "We knew that Australia is playing strong basketball, strong defense, but we just let them play what they want, to play fast break with outlet passes, and this 19 points after two quarters put us in a bad position," he added.

It was Kazlauskas who was the most disappointed amongst his team's poor approach to the Australian action. "It was a difficult game, we lost concentration," Kazlauskas expressed.

He added: "We made 22 turnovers and that is too many for this kind of game, and we lost the rebounding which made it difficult for us."

Yet in the third quarter the Green Machine unleashed their trademark comeback, giving the Aussies a heart-stopping moment. That same exact moment brought the big crowd at Gran Canaria to life but still not impressing for Kazlauskas. "We should be playing better for three of the four quarters. I would prefer to lose the third quarter but win the game," he said. "We came back, but when we did I think we spent too much energy."

Seibutis is still hopeful after tasting defeat. As their team is now falling to second or third in the group, he is not giving up.

"The group isn't finished yet, we still have two games left," he said.

He added: "Some teams are winning games and some teams are losing games, so we just have to keep together in the next two games."

He ended the statement: "I think it's just too early to start counting the points."
