‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Paul Wesley To Leave Series? Why Phoebe Tonkin’s Boyfriend Believes It’s Time For Stefan Salvatore To Depart Mystic Falls

Rumors are still buzzing that one of the three lead stars of CW's hit vampire series might not renew his or her contract for the seventh season. Could it be "The Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley?

Recent spoilers tease that the character of Phoebe Tonkin's boyfriend will be leaving Mystic Falls to pursue a new profession. The pilot episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 entitled "I'll Remember" will show how Stefan copes with the loss of Damon and Bonnie.

Apart from having a new job, TV Guide reports that Stefan will have a new home. This might explain his temporary absence from the town. At the San Diego Comic Con 2014 panel held last July, the actor said that Stefan wouldn't be seen much with the group because he'd continue searching for his brother.

"He takes off, he leaves town and he decides that he doesn't want to have any part. We think that he's searching for Damon and Bonnie. We think that he's being proactive but in reality he's gone. He's doing his thing and he's completely disinterested, he's apathetic, he's given up," said Wesley.

In 2013, Wesley also said at the Comic Con event that it would be best for Stefan to separate from the pack: "I think it's time for him to maybe go off, and then come back later to Mystic Falls and see how that impacts the relationships that he has with Elena and Damon."

Is Wesley hinting that he isn't satisfied anymore with the storyline?

The show's producers have not identified the "Vampire Diaries" star who has expressed reluctance regarding his or her participation for the seventh season. Executive producer Julie Plec only told E! News that the series would go on "as long as the actors want the show to go."

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 premiere on October 2.
