FIBA World Cup 2014: Is Team USA Vs. Spain Collision Inevitable? How Do They Match Up So Far?

Even before the FIBA World Cup 2014 began, a lot of sports journalists an experts have pointed to a Spain-USA clash in the finals.

And so far, that may certainly be the case.

Of the 24 teams which have joined this year's FIBA World Cup, only the USA and Spain national squads have not lost, and that tells a lot of which two teams are the best in this year's bunch.

Spain has been demolishing its opponents left and right, winning by an average margin of more than 20 points a game. The same can be said with Team USA, though for some match-ups, games were closer than expected especially that one against Turkey where the only NBA player is Omer Asik.

So far in the tournament, Pau Gasol has been out proving to everyone that he still has the skill and will power to dominate. Averaging 20 points a game on more than 64 percent shooting, he has been most efficient in the low post and with his midrange jumpers. His brother Marc has also contributed well for Spain, and so does guards Ricky Rubio and Jose Calderon.

On the other hand, the FIBA World Cup for 2014 proves to be Anthony Davis' coming party as the 22-year-old averages almost 13 points a game. With all the talent this roster has, averaging double digits in points is already a feat. His partner in the paint, Kenneth Faried has also been consistent in grabbing boards and scoring as well.

James Harden is still his usual self of being a foul-bait, and Dubs guards Steph Curry and Klay Thompson continue to light it up from outside.

Spain will face France which is led by NBA players Nicholas Batum and Boris Diaw, while Team USA will take on Slovenia in order to move on to the semi-final round.

In a matter of days, we'll see whether both teams can keep their hot streaks en route to a collision course at the FIBA World Cup 2014 Finals.
