Many Hollywood actresses are crossing over to Broadway these days and the latest addition to the roster is Vanessa Hudgens as "Gigi" in the musical's revival.

According to the Washington Post, after a four-week audition the casting of Vanessa Hudges as "Gigi" has been made official.

The former "High School Musical" star took to Twitter to announce the news and share her excitement, saying: "So excited to play Gigi in @GigiOnBroadway! I hope y'all will have a chance to see me in it when we open at @kencen!!"

Vanessa Hudgens also shared her thoughts about landing the role in an interview with ABC News."I think, as an actor, the ultimate dream is to be on Broadway. I think it's the true test. There are no second takes. You've got to bring everything you've got for the most critical of audiecnes. It's an honor, if anything. I'm over the moon," the 25-year-old actress said.

In a statement, Hudgens shared her excitement about performing for a live audience again. "I started performing in musicals from a young age, and it has always been my dream to be on Broadway. I cannot wait to get back on stage, singing and dancing these songs and living in Gigi's glamorous world," said Hudgens.

The musical's producer Jenna Segal has nothing but admiration and good words about casting Vanessa Hudgens as Gigi. "We absolutely fell in love with Vanessa, and we know the audiences will, too," she said. "She has a huge worldwide following, and it's easy to understand why, once you see her on stage. She just has that special something, and we're thrilled to have her with us to bring our new Gigi to life."

"Gigi" is based on a novella by Colette, which tells the story of a Parisian girl set to be a courtesan and her love story with a wealthy man.

The musical showcasing Vanessa Hudgens as Gigi will be directed by Eric Schaeffer and will first be staged at the Kennedy Center from mid-January to mid-February before transferring to Broadway.
