Electronics Giant Sony Forecasts 2 Billion Dollars Loss For Current Fiscal Year!

Experts at Sony, the Japanese electronics giant, expect its loss to swell at a huge figure of 2 billion dollars as the company's spell of despair continues even in the current financial year. Analysts within the company are blaming the drastic downturn in smartphone sales for these losses. While the company's forecast for sales and revenues remained unchanged at seventy six billion, there are no expectations for the profits to flow in as the organization will be saddled with operating level and pre-tax losses that will need to be cleared on priority. The shocking part for investors across the globe is that this forecast is five times the original estimate of 488 million set by the company at the start of the year.

In a bid to rectify this situation, Sony is expected to focus on reducing the volatility in the smartphone category instead of expanding its phone business. The problem in the Sony phones segment has been growing for long and needs to be addressed urgently. With the coming of new smart phone manufacturers at regular intervals, the magnitude of the problem is also increasing at a frantic pace. Previously Sony has faced similar problems in its TV manufacturing as well as computers segment. However, the electronics giant has bounced back to life by addressing these issues and registering decent profits in the last year.

Amidst these problems, Sony also registered a profit of 261 million dollars in the gaming segment. This profit clearly indicates the dominant position of the brand in the gaming market. Surprisingly, luck continues to favour the brand as Sony also registered a handsome profit in the pictures' division in spite of the several high profile exits that had raised a major question mark on the future of this segment. With an operating profit of 76 million dollars, the number in this segment was more than double the amount recorded in the first quarter of the year 2013.
