Miss America Answers Sorority Hazing Issues Via Blog Post; Kira Kazantsev Talks About 'The Reality Of Miss America'

Miss America has been the subject of criticism over the past few days after reports about her being dismissed from her college sorority because of hazing surfaced.

While the pageant organizers already gave their statement of full support to Miss America, Kira Kazantsev took it upon herself to address the issue.

Kazantsev put up a personal blog, to "share [her] year" to readers and to let people know that the title she was crowned for was not a one-night affair.

She also put the blog to good use by addressing the latest controversy she was linked to on the platform.

In her post titled "The Reality of Miss America," Kazantsev said: "I'd like to address one specific issue that has popped up in the media. Because what type of role model would I be if I told people, young women especially, that you can't make mistakes? That's not real life."

She recounted the time she applied to be part of the Alpha Phi sorority chapter at Hofstra University in spring 2010. "To be completely honest, I didn't know what I was signing up for," said Kazantsev.

She explained how the "so-called hazing" only involved "standing in a line reciting information, a few sleepless nights, and crafting."

To further explain how she got dismissed from the sorority, Kazantsev recalled an experience during her time as a New Member Educator. She reportedly sent an email proposing to make an event a scary night for the pledges that year. She maintained that it was meant as a joke but was reportedly taken seriously and the issue was sent to the national organization.

"Based on that information, the national office summoned me for a judiciary hearing," Miss America shared. "Based on the fact that I did not attend this hearing that was the official reason given for my termination."

Kazantsev, who has triple majored in political science, geography and global studies maintained that she was never part of any hazing activity, saying: "I was never involved with any name-calling or use of profanity toward a girl during my time with the sorority. I was never involved in any physical hazing or any degradation of physical appearance of any kind."

While Miss America Kira Kazantsev has given a statement about the hazing issue thrown at her, she has yet to address the negative reaction some people made upon learning that she interned at Planned Parenthood in college.
