Admit it, the idea of a space vacation is something you have been waiting for since you saw "The Fith Element" According to a new report from Skyscanner, a travel search engine, vacations under the ocean and into space will be the norm by 2024.

"Taking travel to space will be a ground-breaking milestone for mankind in general, but what's even more exciting is the transfer of technologies that space exploration can bring to commercial aviation," says Filip Filipov, Skyscanner's Head of B2B. 

The "Future of Travel 2024" report suggests that the exponential increase of technology will affect how we vacation, including hotels located in the depth of the seas and also in the space..

A previous report suggests that British artist Sarah Brightman will fly to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2015, which will cost her about $52 million. Google's co-founder Sergey Brin is also rumored to have paid a deposit for his space journey in 2017.

Space travel in the future may not be as expensive as it is today, but holiday makers may have to splash $75,000 for a space trip in 2024.

Filipov also suggested that the travel time in general will be shorter; he suggests that future travellers may be able to get from Sydney to London in just about 2.5 hours.

Skyscanner's Director of Hotels Nik Gupta says "In 10 years' time, advances in digital technology will mean that travelers will have no need to encounter a single human being from the time that they enter their chosen hotel to the time that they check out of their room."

The fight back against peer-to-peer travel will see hotels useincredible levels of hyper-personalization, a way to combat the spreading popularity of room sharing sites like Air BNB. The report suggests that there will be hotel software linked to social profiles to ensure complete customization of room settings, personalized selection of menus, restaurant suggestions and activities to each guest, organic LEDs (OLEDs) will make any surface into a video surface, heralding a new age of interactive hotel room walls, high-frequency sounds and chromatherapy deployed in bathrooms will literally shake dirt off bodies with sound waves while soothing various pain points with color technology, and in-room 3D printers will offer custom printed amenities on-demand.

Underwater resorts already exist, he Underwater Suites in Dubai, has been doing quite well, and consumers can expect to see the prices of such stays drop as the technology becomes more accessable.

Skyscanner CEO Gareth Williams said, "Without question, space tourism will grow and get cheaper. But what is affordable for the general public is a very arbitrary question given we're a planet of 7 billion people. I suspect we'll see the habitation of Mars and the ambitions of Mars One or Elon Musk's vision coming to fruition before space travel becomes common enough and cheap enough to be affordable for the majority."

The report also warns about "last" tourism, or going to a place that is slowly being destroyed by enviornmental change, so as to be one of the last people to see it. The report warns that this kind of tourism could hasten the demise of delicate and rare ecosystems. Such a problem has already begun to occur in the Arctic, where tourism is hastening the destuction of the snow.
