'The Fappening' Part 4: Leaked Celebrity Photos Of Winona Ryder, Ingrid Michaelson and Erin Heatherton Surface, Google And Apple Shift Blame

Well, it looks like “The Fappening” part 4 has officially kicked off, as even more hacked celebrity nudes have been leaked onto the net. Winona Ryder is the biggest name in a roster that also includes model Erin Heatherton and singer Ingrid Michaelson. Meanwhile, the two companies who have faced the most blame for the series of attacks – Apple and Google – both seem eager to point the finger at each other regarding the repeated violations of privacy.

The Australian International Business Times reports that photos have surfaced on Reddit and 4chan, the usual hubs for all such content. As previously reported, nude video of Amber Heard also recently surfaced on Monday, as did photos of Nick Hogan nude and engaging in sexual acts with previous girlfriends. Last week, dozens of private photos of actress Nina Dobrev were released, but she was fully clothed in all of them. Both of the web platforms involved have vowed to remove any hacked celebrity photos from threads as quickly as possible, but it is never fast enough to stop them from circulating.

Since the series of hackings began in August, Apple’s iCloud software has faced intense scrutiny, as many believe it to be lacking proper security. The company has insisted publicly that they are not at fault, but last month the Daily Dot got their hands on emails that show they had been informed by a security professional Ibrahim Balic that their data storing service was, in fact, highly vulnerable to attack.

In an apparent attempt to shift the focus, Apple CEO Tim Cook released a statement calling out Google, who was recently threatened with a lawsuit for allegedly profiting from having hacked photos on their search results pages. As Jezebel reports, Cook said of the search engine giant, “I think everyone has to ask how does a company make their money? … And if they’re making money by collecting gobs of personal data, I think you have the right to be worried, and you should really understand what’s happening to that data.”

Google CEO Eric Shmidt responded somewhat passive-aggressively, saying, “Someone didn’t brief him [Cook] correctly on Google’s policies…we have always been a leader in security and encryption. Our systems are far more secure and encrypted than anyone else, including Apple. They’re catching up, which is great.”
