Manny Pacquiao News Update: Pro Basketball Career May Be Ingredient To Pacman's Defeat In November, Scores 1 Point In A Pre-Season Game

Manny Pacquiao is undeniably one of the best boxers of all time, but if he commits the same mistake again, he may end up losing to underdog Chris Algieri in their bout next month in Macau, China.

When Pacquiao faced Juan Manuel Marquez for the fifth time in 2012, he was filled with confidence that he would be able to finally win decisively. However, his unpreparedness for the camp, and other issues he chose to consider while training for the fight didn't help.

As a result, he didn't find his form right away, proven by an early knockdown by 'El Dinamita'. By the time he got in the groove, Marquez was already planning to counterattack and use Pacquiao's speed against himself.

This time around, Pacquiao may not be facing a similarly-tactical genius such as Marquez, but he is up for the second tallest fighter he will ever face in the ring.

While Algieri may not look like it, he totally outboxed favorite Ruslan Provodnikov in their fight earlier this year. Dubbed as the Siberian Rocky, Provodnikov was often compared to Pacquiao due to his relentless attacks and brawler type of gameplan.

Pacquiao has certainly come along way from being a slugger and all out puncher, to becoming a boxer who thinks, and becomes creative as the fight progresses. However, he should not treat Algieri as just another tune-up fight, potentially to prepare the boxing world to his match with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Some distractions which Pacquiao should set aside for the moment include his professional basketball career in the Philippines. The tax evasion charges filed against him by his country's tax agency, his TV and showbiz career, and politics.
