Amanda Bynes may finally get the help she needs.  She was hospitalized and put on a psychiatric hold on Friday, after weeks of enduring a very public downward spiral. The actress took to Twitter earlier in the day, alleging that her father physically, verbally and sexually abused her as a child. She later recanted, after other members of her family – including her mother – claimed her statement was false. Bynes’ parents are reportedly now trying to regain conservatorship over her.

Bynes posted a series of tweets Friday Morning in which she accused her father of wrongdoing. Among them were one in which she wrote, “My dad was verbally and physically abuse to me as a child,” followed by, “He called me ugly as a child and then asked me if I wanted to have sex with him.” She went on to say that he regularly fondled himself in front of her, and she would record him on her cellphone in an attempt to gather evidence. According to TMZ, Bynes fired off the tweets after learning that her parents were trying to get her placed in a psychiatric hospital.

Later in the day, Bynes’ mother Lynne released a statement to E! News saying, “Rick has been the best father and husband a family can ask for. He never abused Amanda or our other children physically or sexually.” Bynes’ siblings Jillian and Tommy agreed, calling their parents “the most wonderful parents who have ever lived.”

Later in the day, Bynes tweeted her own recantation, writing, “My dad never did any of those things The microchip in my brain made me say those things but he’s the one that ordered them to microchip me.”

TMZ reports that Bynes has been put on a 5150 psychiatric hold, and will be in the hospital for at least 72 hours. The stay can be extended for up to 14 days. Bynes parents, who had previously insisted their daughter was fine and declined to renew their past conservatorship, have reportedly changed their tune. It is impossible for us to know what is or isn’t true regarding Bynes’ initial accusations, but it is clear that she is in desperate need of psychiatric care.
