Stephen Collins Child Molestation Charges: Stephen Collins' Ex Wife Faye Grant Says Collins Led Secret Life; Collins Lawyer Says Grant Is Trying to Extort Money

Stephen Collins and his ex-wife Faye Grant are battling over different accounts of Collins' child abuse case.Faye Grant released through her lawyer Larry Ginsberg on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Grant claimed she had nothing to the leaked audio tapes.

Stephen Collins was accused of molesting several young girls after an audio tape that his ex-wife Faye Grant gave to the authorities was released. Stephen Collins' wife Faye Grant denied releasing the recording of his alleged child molestation admission. Grant said she gave the tape to the authorities in 2012. She said she didn't know that the tape was shared with the media.

In a statement to People Magazine, Grant said, "This is a deeply sad situation for everyone involved. With regard to the divorce proceedings, I am seeking no more than that to which I am legally entitled under the laws of the State of California. The recording of Mr. Collins has not been part of family court proceedings or any negotiations related to that action at any time."

Stephen Collins starred as the Rev. Eric Camden in the television show "7th Heaven." He also had a role in the movie "Ted 2." Collins filed for divorce from Faye Grant in 2012 after 27 years of marriage. Collins allegedly confessed at the time that he'd had inappropriate contact with children. Faye reportedly taped the conversation without his knowledge.

Collins' attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan claimed that Grant tried to extort Collins in order to take "millions of dollars more than that to which she is legally entitled."
Grant's lawyer denied that his client tried to extort the embattled 7th Heaven actor. "The statement that my client attempted to extort Mr. Stephen Collins with an audiotape is fabricated and defamatory, and could not be farther from the truth," Ginsberg said in the statement. "In fact, Faye turned over the recording to the LAPD and NYPD two years ago after Mr. Collins refused to address and get help with regard to his reprehensible conduct."

In a statement to TMZ, Kaplan said "Over the course of my representation of Stephen in the divorce case, Faye has repeatedly threatened to give this audiotape to the media unless Stephen agreed to pay her millions of dollars more than that to which she was legally entitled. When these demands were rebuffed, Faye attempted - without success - to peddle the tape in numerous ways to numerous different people. It appears that she has finally found an audience for this tape - not surprisingly, on the eve of the trial in the divorce case where, again, she is seeking millions of dollars more than that to which she is legally entitled. Though we would like to address the tape itself, the circumstances dictate that we must regrettably refrain from doing so at this time."

TMZ reported that the leaked tape featured Collins admitting to molesting at least three children. The tape was made during a therapy session. Talking about an 11-year-old girl on the tape, Collins allegedly said "There was one moment of touching where her hand, I put her hand on my penis." Collins also allegedly admitted exposing himself "a couple of times" to her.

TMZ reported "We're told her lawyer advised her it was legal to secretly record the conversation because in California you're allowed to secretly record conversations to gather evidence the other person committed a violent felony ... and molesting a child under the age of 14 qualifies."

The tape allegedly includes this exchange:

Grant: With a 10-year-old? OK.

Collins: Well ... no ... she was 11 andthen like, 12 and 13.

Grant: Oh my God.

Collins: There was never any conversation around it.

Collins: Well this is in the disclosure and I told you before there was one instance, where for there was one moment of touching where her hand, I put her hand on my penis.

In a declaration to the court, Grant said "I believe that Stephen used his celebrity status to engender the trust of the families of the children he molested. I further believe that there have been other victims, but he has thus far only confessed to those three girls."

In the document, Grant claims "The two victims in New York were apparently molested over the course of several years, from the ages of 10-14 years old. My understanding is that all three of these victims are now over the age of 26."

Grant reportedly believes that one of the victims filed a sexual assault complaint in New York.

In the document Grant insists "I had no knowledge of Stephen's secret life until January 2012. I never witnessed anything first-hand that would have given me any indication of what Stephen was doing. After Stephen admitted to molesting the three young girls, I reported his acts to the police in both Los Angeles County and New York City."

The documents also claims that Grant said "Stephen's therapist subsequently disclosed to me that Stephen has narcissistic personality disorder with sociopathic tendencies."
