Reese Witherspoon Opens Up About 2013 Disorderly Conduct Arrest At London Film Festival Screening Of New Film ‘Wild’

Reese Witherspoon is embracing honesty, both in her new film "Wild" and in her personal life.

At the BFI London Film Festival premiere of "Wild," the 38-year-old actress opened up about a particularly serious moment in her life, her 2013 arrest for disorderly conduct.

"I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn't exactly what they thought I was," Witherspoon told reporters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn't know about. It's part of human nature. I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on."

Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth were both arrested in Atlanta when police officers suspected Toth of driving while intoxicated. Witherspoon was charged with disorderly conduct while refusing to comply with the officers' demands while defending her spouse, who eventually pleaded no contest to DUI charges.

After the incident, Witherspoon made a statement to E! News regarding her arrest.

"Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said," said the star. "It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse."

As for "Wild," the Academy Award winning actress admitted that the film is one of the most difficult projects she has ever worked on.

"When you see me putting together the tent, that's literally me putting together the tent," said Witherspoon. "It took me two hours. I could not figure out the f--ing tent. And when I kicked the stove, it's because I couldn't make the f--ing stove work."

"It's the hardest I've ever done for many different reasons," added the actress, whose turn in the movie adaptation of the Cheryl Strayed novel is already generating Oscar buzz.

"The physicality was really difficult, but after that was the emotional part of it," Witherspoon dished to reporters, according to BBC News. "The sex scenes were the hardest thing for me to do. I've never had to do anything like that in my entire life."

But the actress dove into the role of a woman dealing with a heroine addiction and penchant for promiscuity.

"I had to do all the parts of the movie," explained Witherspoon. "The parts that made me feel uncomfortable too, because it is about emotional honesty."
