Apple October 16 Event: Release Date For Updated iPad Air, OS X Yosemite, Retina iMacs Pegged

Apple’s October 16 event is final and journalists have been invited to what could possibly be the release date of the new iPad, the latest Mac OS – OS X Yosemite, and the rumored Retina iMacs.

CNET reports that the company is expected to show off a new iPad (possibly two variants of the tablet), and discuss more the OS X Yosemite OS. The presentation kicks off at 10 AM PST and is a lower key affair held at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, CA.

An update on the iPad Air is expected to be unveiled on October 16 with the TouchID fingerprint sensor being considered a likely new addition. The feature allows user to unlock their devices and purchase items from iTunes and the AppStore with a touch of a finger.

CNET also says that another likely update to the iPad is a gold variant as well as silver and space gray versions.

Late last week, the Gold Master candidate version of the OS X Yosemite. The said edition is the last step towards a full-scale downloadable version of the new Mac OS. Many speculate that though the download date maybe a day after the October 16 event, with some suggesting that it could be as late as Oct. 21.

Another update that maybe revealed on the 16th is a new line of iMacs with Retina Display. 9to5Mac reports that a new line of the Apple desktops with high-resolution Retina Displays is already in late testing stages with Apple. The machine is expected to have a similar thin profile but may have a faster processor and improved WiFi antennas.

If the rumors are the true and the new iMacs are launched, it will mark the Cupertino tech giant’s first foray in the world of Retina desktop computers. 9to5Mac notes that the resolution for the upcoming Retina iMacs are 6400 x 3600, 5760 x 3240, and 4096 x 2304, with differences based on the type of iMac.
