According to the Harris Poll, the Denver Broncos are America's new favorite team, beating out the Dallas Cowboys for the famed title. ESPN reveals that the nationwide poll surveyed 2,543 adults (1,275 of whom said they followed professional football), and was taken from Sept.10-17.

The Broncos are particularly proud of this achievement, as the Dallas Cowboys finished in the Harris Poll's top spot for the past six years as the "favorite team" of adults who follow professional football. CBS Sports reports that there have been a total of 14 Harris Polls taken since 1998 and the Cowboys have been voted #1 in nine of those. Furthermore, the last team to rank #1 before the Cowboys was the Steelers in 2006.

So who took the next few spots in this year's poll? According to ESPN, the New York Giants finished at #2, the Green Bay Packers at #3, the Dallas Cowboys at #4, and the Pittsburgh Steelers at #5. The Seattle Seahawks came in at #6.

Broncos coach John Fox stated, "I think when you coach here or play here, you kind of realize the reach of the team. You always knew this was a tough place to play if you've ever had to compete here in a game, but the reach is something you see when you're around it every day," conveying his faith in his team.

It is likely that the Broncos are thanking quarterback Peyton Manning for their rise up the ranking. In 2011, Denver was America's 17th favorite team. The next time the poll was administered in 2013, the Broncos ranking had shot up to No. 3. Coincidence? Probably not. Manning is close to breaking Brett Favre's NFL mark for career touchdown passes (508) - throughout his career, Manning has thrown a total 506 touchdown passes.

Though the Broncos have been titled America's new favorite team, they are not actually favored to win the Super Bowl. CBS Sports reports that the honor belongs to Seattle - 28% of all respondents think the Seahawks will take home the Lombardi trophy this year. However, the Broncos got the second most votes at 19%.
