Atlético Madrid will face off against rival Espanyol on Sunday, placing two of La Liga BBVA's closely followed teams against each other.

Atlético Madrid, currently ranked number five in the league's standings, is expected to be the favorite in the match. Espanyol, ranked number eight in the league, is expected to be the underdog in the match.

Barcelona is said to have to leave La Liga BBVA if the Catalonia region splits from Spain.

"If Catalonia became independent, taking into consideration the Sports Law that would be enforced by the rest of Spain, Barcelona wouldn't be allowed to play," Tebas, the president of the league, told reporters during a press conference.

"There would have to be a change in the law made in the Spanish Parliament. Clearly if it happened then it would be detrimental for Spanish football to lose Barca."

There are a total of ten matches scheduled for Week 8 of La Liga BBVA's season schedule.
