Minecraft Movie To Possibly Be Directed By ‘Night At The Museum’s’ Shawn Levy; Will Film Echo ‘Lego Movie’s’ Success?

Theater screens will soon welcome blocks coming to life as Warner Bros. Studios confirms its upcoming adaptation of Minecraft. The popular video game will reportedly be produced and directed by Shawn Levy whose known for his works in "Night at the Museum," "Real Steel," "Cheaper by the Dozen," "The Pink Panther," and more.

Minecraft is a game wherein players' avatars are brought into a monster-filled world. Throughout the game, players rely on cubes to "create, build, and destroy structures."

IGN reports that the film company acquired the rights for the game's film adaptation back in February. While some are wondering whether a story can be crafted from Minecraft, Cinemablend believes that Levy can "theoretically do justice" for the adaptation.

"He has been able to take the concept of educational museums and turn them into a successful trilogy of family comedies with the Night At The Museum films," cited the website.

The studio is reportedly hoping that the Minecraft movie will echo the success of "LEGO" movie. Apart from its box-office success, CEO Kevin Tsujihara is confident that the film franchise will earn more this year.

"This year, our Lego properties will generate over $800 million in revenue, and now we have a big movie franchise to build off of," he said.

"LEGO" movie is gearing up for three more films which will be released in the next four years. The "Ninjago" movie will be first with its 2016 release date whereas the "Lego Batman" movie will come out in 2017. The "Lego Movie 2" will follow in 2018.
