Oscar Pistorius Murder Case Trial: Paralympian Not Deserving Of Lesser Sentence Despite Condition? Sister Of Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp Pushes For 20 Years In Prison But Gets Only Five

Oscar Pistorius' murder case trial took a dramatic turn as the sister of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp lobbied for 20 years in prison, claiming that "disabled people" shouldn't automatically get softer sentences. However, the former Olympian was only given five years behind bars.

Simone Cowburn, 49, told MailOnline that placing Oscar Pistorius under house arrest would be a gross injustice.

"Oscar deserves prison. How can he just stay in the luxury of his house after taking somebody's life," she said. "Community service and house arrest are ridiculous. These should be for people who are stealing or other minor offences. Not shooting somebody. Reeva deserves justice."

She said placing the Paralympian under house arrest, even after all the media frenzy surrounding the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial, would set a dangerous precedent.

"If a man steals a block of cheese here, he can get 20 years and that is for theft. But if you take somebody's life like Oscar has, you can get house arrest. It is not right. He has got to do time. It is hard to say how long he should get. Ten or twenty years or whatever," she said.

"I don't think much of the story of him being disabled and that there is no room for disability in prison and that he must get house arrest," Cowburn added.

According to Australia's News.com, he will be committed in the Kgosi Mampuru II prison, which was previously known as Pretoria Central Prison.

"If jailed, he would become one of about 7000 inmates currently held in the jail close to the centre of Pretoria," the website earlier said. "Within six hours of admission to the jail, Pistorius would undergo a health assessment and be sent to the prison's hospital section."

Meanwhile, the judge handed down the sentence on Tuesday where the Blade Runner was sentenced to serve a five-year prison sentence.

Per Yahoo News, the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial reveals that the Paralympian may only serve 10 months behind bars after which he may be able to serve the remaining time in house arrest.
