‘Plants Vs. Zombies’ Soundtrack Composer Laura Shigihara Talks Her Newest Work On The ‘Rakuen’ Game And Names ‘Chrono Trigger’ As Her Favorite Game Of All Time

While indiegames often don't get a lot of attention by nature, "Plants vs. Zombies" became a smash hit and ultimately catapulted its composer Laura Shigihara into the spotlight. Recently in an interview she shared some more information about her newest project "Rakuen" as well as naming "Chrono Trigger" her favorite game of all time.

"Well, my favorite game of all time is ‘Chrono Trigger'. I love that game. Everything about it, I thought was so wonderful," Shigihara told Indiegamemag in a recent interview.

The "Plants vs. Zombies" soundtrack composer is currently working on a new game entitled "Rakuen." According to Gamespot, "‘Rakuen' is a story-based adventure game about a little boy who becomes bored with living in a hospital and eventually asks his mother if she'll escort him to the fantasy world from his favorite storybook."

Shigihara commented on the development process for "Rakuen," as well as how she approaches all new game soundtracks. "I have a lot of things that I do to get ready, like in the right state of mind. I like going on walks, and drinking tea. Sometimes eating chocolate. I usually do some combination of things to get in a creative state beforehand," explained Shigihara.

"As for doing music specifically for levels, I usually ask if I can get a build of the game to play, so that I can just see how it feels. Hopefully, new music materializes in my head from there."

IndieGameMag has the full interview where Shigihara talks about plenty of other interesting things, including difficulties she had early on in her career and what games she'd like the chance to work on in the future.

Fans of Indie Games and Laura Shigihara can head over to the official website for more information about "Rakuen." They can also preview and pre-order the soundtrack for the game on Shigihara's Bandcamp page for "Rakuen." "Rakuen" is expected to be released for PC sometime before the end of 2014.
