Former MLB Outfielder Jose Canseco Accidentally Shot Himself In The Left Hand As His Fiancée Model Leila Knight Confirmed That He Will Never Regain Full Use Of The Hand

Former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder and designated hitter Jose Canseco accidentally shot himself in the left hand on Tuesday in the Las Vegas Valley. The legendary MLB slugger was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is currently undergoing intense surgery to reattach his left middle finger.

According to KLAS-TV, Canseco, 50, accidentally shot himself in the left hand while cleaning a gun. Model Leila Knight, Canseco's fiancée told the Los Angeles Times that Canseco was cleaning his gun in the kitchen when it fired.

Knight told the newspaper, "I heard the gun go off and saw his middle finger hanging by a string," she added, "It will either have to be amputated or have full reconstruction surgery." She revealed that the doctors said Canseco will never regain full use of the hand he accidentally shot. Knight took to Twitter via Canseco's account to send out an update. She tweeted, "This is Leila . Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. Jose is in still surgery and will be ok. Please pray for his finger !!"

"Thank you to the ten million people calling and texting me . @JoseCanseco  will be ok ... Just praying he won't have his do her amputated," Leila Knight tweeted from her own Twitter account.

The Cuban-American former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder played for Texas, Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay and the New York Yankees and had 462 career home runs and also was a six-time All-Star.

Canseco has admitted using performance enhancing drugs during his playing career and later in 2005, he wrote a book Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big, to tell everything, even the secrets. Canseco revealed in the books that many MLB players use steroids. Jose Canseco also competed in mixed martial arts and boxing after he retired from Major League Baseball.
