MacBook Air Retina Display Release Date Arriving Early Next Year? Rumored To Boast Fan-Less Chassis

Do you own an aging MacBook and you just want to upgrade already? However, are you still waiting for the MacBook Air Retina display release date?

Sorry to burst your bubble but it looks like you will have to wait for a few more months, or even a year before the new version is released.

According to a previous report by Digital Trends, the new MacBook Air has been delayed because Apple is still waiting for Intel to release its new fan-less Intel chipsets, dubbed Broadwell.

Last year, the chipmaker developed the Haswell chip, which significantly boosted battery life for most laptops, especially ultrabooks which employed it right away. The mid-2013 and early-2014 versions of the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Airs run with this chip.

As a result, the 11-inch MacBook Air can run up to 9 hours of battery without charging, and that includes tasks such as web browsing, video watching and music playback. The 13-inch edition gets 3 more hours due to the larger capacity battery it holds.

With Broadwell, Intel has reportedly developed a technology in which devices will not need to have a fan in order to keep the chipset cool during performance or graphic intensive tasks.

If these claims were true and would be used for the new MacBook Airs, then we can expect an even thinner Apple laptop. Aside from the fact that the portable laptop lasts an average 8-10 hours on a single charge, it would also be thinner and more compact because of the lack of fans.

Other rumors claim a 12-inch version, though producing one would pose a threat within the MacBook Air family. We better take all of these rumors with a pinch of salt until Apple makes the announcement itself.
