Figure Skater Kim Jinseo On Living Up To Yuna Kim's Olympic Accomplishments

Since Yuna Kim's second Olympic medal in figure skating, all eyes are searching for the next South Korean skating star, and it seems Kim Jinseo could be the one.

As an Olympic hopeful for the 2018 PyeongChang games, Kim Jinseo was interviewed by The Korea Times on his senior debut this figure skating season.

"My senior debut came earlier than expected, so I'm in a rush to get physically fit for competition," said the 18-year-old. "In every competition, I learn different things and realize that I'm still under-experienced. This drives me to back into practice."

"As I picked up jumping skills in the early years of my training, I failed to pay a lot of attention in more basic but essential aspects, such as skating. Of course, jump is important, but I should improve stroking skills to show more prudent and masculine skating. I think I'm still far away from my ideal image of a skater, who really enjoy the sport and impart that joy to audiences."

Kim will attempt to repeat the successes of Yuna Kim, a six-time World Championship medalist and a 2010 Olympic figure skating champion.

"Of course, I feel pressure over the expectation on me that I may come close to duplicating Yuna's success," continued Kim. "An Olympic gold is many athletes' ultimate goal. Not just for me, but many other skaters. More importantly, it will be staged on home soil. I need more practice to show my best performance there."

While Yuna Kim has retired from figure skating after winning silver at the 2014 Olympics, "Queen Yuna" has been appointed a promotional ambassador for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games according to The Chosun Ilbo.

Yuna plans to attend Korea University Graduate School for physical education. Many believe this is to aide her quest to become an International Olympic Committee (IOC) athlete's commission member.
