'Ghostbusters' 30th Anniversary Reunion! Original Cast Dishes On Making The Iconic Film And Potential Sequel

It's been 30 years since "Ghostbusters" was released on in theatres. And it still remains a favorite among movie viewers around the world.

In celebration of the milestone, the original cast sat down for an interview with "Today Show" host Al Roker and Entertainment Weekly to discuss the classic film and dish on whether or not there will ever be another sequel.

The "Ghostbusters" reunion brought together actors Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts, as well as director Ivan Reitman.

In the interview, Murray revealed that he sensed early on that the team behind the film would one day celebrate its 30th anniversary.

"I knew it was going to be a huge movie," said the 64-year-old actor. "At that point, we were still watching Yankee Doddle Dandy on TV, so I thought we had a shot."

When asked what exactly went into making Slimer's ectoplasm, which he is blasted with in the film, Murray recalled it being a "disgusting combination" of "corn syrup and another ... and starch and ... some sort of an adhesive and a kind of a poison that's used on chinch bugs."

Hudson discussed interacting with the film's enthusiastic fans and revealed that he picked up a few tips from Murray.

"He just sort of embraced it and, you know, all the years after I-it's how I relate to fans," said Hudson. "I was watching how he just-they loved him. And he always gave back. And I was always really impressed with that."

When asked why another sequel to the beloved franchise has not yet been made, Murray jokingly responded, "I say the money's not right!"

"It's really hard to recreate something that was so beautiful, so wonderful," he then added.

That task would prove even more difficult now that the film's writer and star, Harold Ramis, passed away earlier this year.

However, plans still seem to be in the works for a future sequel as well as a reboot.

"The studio would like to make a movie and continue the franchise, and I hear that there's going to be one that's all women," continued Murray.

Weaver suggested to potential titles for the reboot: "Ghostbabes" and "Ghostbuster Babes."

The reincarnation will be directed by "Bridesmaids" helmer Paul Feig, who said he would be happy to have any of the original cast members appear in the film.

"Those are my comedy heroes. So as far as I'm concerned, anybody wants to come back I welcome with open arms," Feig recently told EW. "It would just be in different roles now, but it would be fun to figure out how to do that."

Several actresses have allegedly expressed interest in starring in the female-driven reboot, including Emma Stone, Mindy Kaling, Melissa McCarthy, and Kristen Wiig. But Feig assures fans of the franchise that his film will not do any harm to the legacy of the original.

"I love the first one so much I don't want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let's just restart it because then we can have new dynamics," said the director. "I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn't gone through it so it's like, 'Oh, my God! What's going on?'"
