Oscar Pistorius Verdict [UPDATE]: Appeal Against Conviction And Sentence Of 'The Blade Runner' In Place ; South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority Cites 'Question Of Law' As Basis

Oscar Pistorius verdict is not over as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is set to appeal the conviction and sentence of "The Blade Runner," citing the question of law as basis, by Judge Thokozile Masipa.

A report from ABC News revealed that the NPA has asked permission from the judge to appeal her decision on the Oscar Pistorius verdict.

In a statement, NPA spokesperson Nathi Mncube said: "Today, we announce that the NPA filed the application for leave to appeal both the conviction and sentence. The appeal on conviction is based on the question of law."

While he didn't specify what kind of conviction and sentence they deem fair, prosecutor Gerrie Nel in his closing argument said that Oscar Pistorius should be jailed for at least 10 years. He was convicted for culpable homicide and sentenced to five years in prison.

In South Africa, prosecutors may request an appeal from the judge if they feel that the case would have had a different outcome if another judge handled it. The NPA believed that Judge Masipa might have misinterpreted the law and overstressed the physical disability and psychological condition of "The Blade Runner" in rendering Oscar Pistorius's verdict.

Previously, June Steenkamp, the mother of victim Reeva Steenkamp, has hit the Oscar Pistorius verdict even if she claimed that she has no hatred for the man who killed her daughter.

"I had a lot of trust in her but I think she did make a mistake," she said of the judge.

She also said that the Oscar Pistorius verdict has not given he closure.

"I've actually been feeling much worse than at the beginning. It's like a realization that she's not there any more. I sat there every day and I always had things to do, and now it's crystal clear that she's never coming back," she said.
