‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ Review Roundup: Fans Call Chuck-E-Cheese Night Shift Game A ‘Stress Simulator’, Kotaku Says Animatronics Are ‘Uncanny’ And ‘Unsettling’

On paper, the idea of a video game involving working the night shift at a Chuck-E-Cheese-like restaurant probably sounds incredibly dull. But then you add in moving animatronics who are out to get you and you have the stuff of nightmares.

Or so that would explain why indie PC game "Five Nights At Freddy's" became a smash hit that warranted a highly anticipated sequel "Five Nights At Freddy's 2." After it's somewhat sudden release this week, professional game reviewers and fans alike are responding to the game with overall praise and, as intended, terror.

Kotaku's Patricia Hernandez reviewed "Five Nights At Freddy's 2," attributing most of the game franchise's success to subliminal fears about childlike elements from Chuck-E-Cheese-type restaurants that turn out to be evil.

"This game makes us take a look at that sort of thing in a different light-what if this popular sort of locale wasn't what it seems? We know there is potency behind the idea that something made for children is actually evil," writes Hernandez. "Add the graphics-which make the game look like it was released in 2000-and you get some rather uncanny and unsettling animatronics."

If you don't trust professional game reviews, one need only look as far as the Steam fan reviews for confirmation of the terror that ensues when you play "Five Nights At Freddy's 2."

One fan writes, "You know a game is too scary when all you have to do to exit is press ESC. 11/10 would quit again." Another fan called it "Stress Simulator 2014" and also rated it 10 out of 10. In short, fans are just as terrified and pleased by "Five Nights At Freddy's 2" as they were by its predecessor.

If you're brave enough to face the all new animatronics in "Five Nights At Freddy's 2" it is currently available for purchase on Steam.
