Honduran beauty queen María José Alvarado Muñoz was found dead, along with her sister, just days before she was scheduled to head off to London and participate in the Miss World Pageant. Alvarado was 19 years old, and her sister, Sofia Trinidad, was 23 years old.

  According to BBC, the two young women vanished this past Thursday night after last being seen leaving a party near the northern city of Santa Barbara. Their family reported their disappearance on Saturday. CNN reports that, unfortunately, Honduras National Police Chief Ramon Sabillon told CNN affiliate Televicentro that there is a 95% certainty that the bodies found Wednesday are those of Alvarado and her sister.

National Bureau of Criminal Investigation chief Leandro Osorio said that the bodies were found in Cablotales village, near the river Aguagua. The police have since detained Plutarco Ruiz, who is said to be the boyfriend of Trinidad, along with another man named Aris Maldonado. The two men are thought to be the last people to have seen the two women before their disappearance.

Police spokesman Jose Coello stated, "Both are being questioned as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Ms. Alvarado and her sister... We hope to establish what role they may have played." Osorio has added that weapons and a car were seized, and that a "protected witness" has since provided important information.

Alvarado, a student from Santa Barbara, Honduras, beat out 18 contestants in order to win the Miss World Honduras crown this past April. In her profile, she described herself as "dedicated," and said she would someday like to go into government, specifically as a diplomat for Honduras.

She also liked to play volleyball and soccer, eat Honduran food, and perform her country's traditional punta dance. She would have arrived in London this week for the early rounds of the Miss World pageant.
