First Photos Of Hugh Jackman’s Steely Pirate Look In Joe Wright’s ‘Pan’

There is a new version of the classic tale of Peter Pan coming to movie theaters next year. And it's like nothing you've seen before.

Entertainment Weekly just released a first look of Hugh Jackman and Levi Miller in director Joe Wright's upcoming film "Pan." And while Jackman doesn't star as Captain Hook, he takes on the role of a pirate far more sinister.

In this reimagining of J.M. Barrie's classic children's tale, Jackman takes on the part of Blackbeard, a tough pirate whose men kidnap young wartime orphans and whisk them away to the mythical world of Neverland in a flying ship.

One of those orphans is a young boy named Peter who, through the course of the film, will discover his destiny and become the iconic hero known as Peter Pan.

Jackman, who sports a rather dastardly look in the film, including a mustache and goatee to accompany his cold body armor, is clearly the villain of the film.

Meanwhile, Garrett Hedlund will play a surprisingly different version of Captain Hook, the traditional bad guy in Peter Pan stories.

In "Pan," Hook will be an Indiana Jones-like adventurer. He is not a Captain and does not have a hook for a hand. Hm... so how does this dashing fellow become an evil pirate and Peter Pan's archnemesis?

"This isn't exactly the Neverland story you know," said Wright, who has helmed films like "Atonement" and "Pride and Prejudice."

It appears that in this film, Hook and Peter start off as friends with Hook being a member of Blackbeard's crew.

Well that's an exciting twist! "Pan" will hit movie theatres on July 17, 2015.
