Halle Berry Wins Court Order To Keep Ex Gabriel Aubry From Straightening Their 6-Year-Old Daughter’s Natural Hair To Make Her Look Less African American

Halle Berry and her ex Gabriel Aubry have been battling each other in court over their daughter Nahla since they split in 2010.

In a new twist in the ongoing legal drama, Berry took Aubry to court for allegedly straightening and lightening 6-year-old Nahla's hair. The African American Academy Award winning actress reportedly claimed that Aubry, a French Canadian model, wanted their little girl to look less African American.

According to the Irish Independent, court documents state that Berry expressed fear that straightening and dyeing Nahla's natural hair would cause "potential psychological and physical damage." The actress also asked "why [her daughter's] natural appearance is not good enough."

"I want both Gabriel and I to make decisions together that affect our daughter, her growth, her development and her general welfare," stated Berry.

She and Aubry share joint custody of their daughter. Berry married actor Oliver Martinez in 2012 and the pair share a one-year-old son. Also, in 2012, a judge prevented Berry and Martinez from moving their son and Nahla to France, due to Aubry's objections.

"I continue to hope that Gabriel and I can find a way to work together to be successful co-parents," added Berry. "It was with regret that I concluded that I had to seek the court's intervention on these issues, but until Gabriel recognizes the meaning of joint legal custody and how it is implemented, it appears that the court will be my only resort to safeguard Nahla's best interests."

Earlier this year, a Superior Court ruled that Berry pay Aubry $16,000 a month for child support, money which Berry claims her ex primarily uses for personal expenses such as funding his modeling career.
