Baltimore Raven's Ray Rice's Wife Janay Rice Says She And NFL Husband 'Meant To Be Together' Despite Assault

Janay Rice, the wife of Baltimore Raven's Ray Rice, claimed that she is meant to be together with her NFL husband despite the assault.

She talked with Matt Lauer of The Today Show on Monday and narrated that she was furious on the day that the assault happened.

"We came home and we didn't talk the entire ride. He tried to talk to me. I didn't want to hear any of it. I just knew he hit me, and I was done. I just didn't even want to entertain it. Any explanation," she said.

However, Janay Rice was at her husband's side when Baltimore Raven's Ray Rice made a public apology. She told Matt Lauer, as published on E! News, that she was willing to help him get back his image and career.

"[I wanted to] help the way we looked in the media, help his image, help-obviously-his career, so they told us earlier that week we would do the press conference and I was fine with it," she said.

The only problem was Janay Rice didn't write the statement herself. It was the Baltimore Ravens who reportedly gave her a general script of what to say, which apparently included a portion where she owed up to some of the mistakes and justifying the violence.

"That was frustrating for me because obviously people took it as I'm taking light off of what Ray did, in no way. I was basically not doing what I was told, but at the same time I didn't think it was completely wrong for me to apologize because at the end of the day I got arrested, too. So I did something wrong, too."

Meanwhile, Baltimore Raven's Ray Rice's wife has her work cut out for her as Janay Rice try to extricate herself from the abuse.

"She is protecting her identity as a mother, as a wife, as a daughter, and as a woman. She is fiercely working to buttress her strength after her husband put her in a position of helpless weakness," said Yahoo Sports Eric Adelson.

"So we keep asking the wrong questions. It's not simply, 'How do we protect women from domestic violence?' It's also, 'How do we protect women after domestic violence has occurred?'" he wrote.
