New England Patriots Dragged Into Aaron Hernandez's Murder Case; Defense Seeks To Reduce Witness List

The New England Patriots are dragged into the Aaron Hernandez's murder case as the defense petitioned to cut down the witness list.

According to the report from Boston Globe, the prosecutors have submitted the names of Robert Kraft, New England Patriots' team owner, and coach Bill Belichik in the Aaron Hernandez's murder case.

They were part of the 300 witnesses-including NFL players Brandon Spikes and Mike Pouncey-of the prosecutors in the trial in Bristol County Superior Court.

Hernadez's lawyers have accused prosecutors of bloating the witness list so they would waste their time looking into the background of each and every one.

"It is inconceivable that the Commonwealth will actually call each of the 305 witnesses it identified as a prospective witness . . . or that the Court will allow it to do so," the defense wrote in its November 17 plea.

"Thus, the effect of this inflated witness list is to conceal the identities of the witnesses the Commonwealth actually intends to call while forcing defense counsel to waste their limited time and resources investigating and preparing to cross-examine myriad individuals whom the Commonwealth does not intend to call at all," it added.

The three defense lawyers in Aaron Hernandez's murder case then appealed to the Bristol County Superior court judge to reduce the witness list.

Meanwhile, in a report from Courant, the defense said that it will bring in an expert witness who will give his opinion on the effects of marijuana and PCP on human behavior.

"Several individuals with whom Hernandez associated have criminal records that involved the use or possession of PCP, or angel dust, a street drug that is known to cause violent behavior," the report said.

The selection of the jury for Aaron Hernandez's murder case trial is scheduled on January 9 in Fall River.
